Class Schedule

Founded in 1940 by Laura Leggett Barnes, The Arboretum School of the Barnes Foundation offers a comprehensive course of study in the botanical sciences, horticulture practices, garden aesthetics, and design. Students learn and practice in the twelve-acre Arboretum, a state-of-the-art greenhouse, and upon satisfactory completion of the three-year program receive a certificate of achievement.

The curriculum includes classroom lectures, self-directed learning, and hands-on experiences from which students develop into well-informed practitioners. Classes meet weekly over a 28-week period.
College Credit
Beginning in the fall, 2004, students may take courses for college credit or for non-credit. Students should consult their college or university to determine whether they may transfer college credits approved by the American Council on Education. Classes meet weekly for either one or two semesters. Check the course schedules for the class that interests you.

Pennsylvania Act 48 Hours
The Barnes Foundation is an Approved Provider through the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Pennsylvania teachers of kindergarten through grade 12 may take courses for Act 48 hours.
