Volunteering at the Arborteum

Gardens Join the Arboretum's volunteer team! The only qualification is an interest in gardening. You can learn new skills, meet people who share your interests, and feel good about supporting the Arboretum.

Volunteers usually meet every Thursday morning from 8:30 to 12:00 during April to November.

From December to March volunteers meet on the first Thursday of the month from 8:30 to 12:00, weather permitting.

No commitment is required; just come when you can. Working as a group, we tackle a different section of the garden each week weeding, mulching, or pruning under the supervision of the Arboretum horticulture staff.

Other volunteer opportunities include:
  • The spring plant sale- preparation, set up, sales
  • Give tours of the arboretum to visitors
  • Individual volunteers can adopt specific garden areas and arrange their schedules with the horticulturist in charge. Unlike the Thursday morning horticulture volunteers, these workers tend only one garden area and work on their own time. Gardens awaiting adoption include the rose garden, the perennial garden, and the peony garden
