Cultivating Passion

Cultivating Passion: A Symposium

A daylong symposium exploring how plants inspire artists, writers, gardeners, and designers

Join us for a day of discussion about plants and horticulture as catalysts for creativity. Speakers include poet Molly Peacock discussing the fascinating Mrs. Delany, a pioneering botanical artist in 18th-century England; renowned landscape architect, author, and environmental artist W. Gary Smith; and local thinkers, makers, and gardeners Dan Benarcik, Syd Carpenter, and Inta Krombolz.

Cultivating Passion commemorates 75 years of horticulture education at the Barnes Arboretum. Founded by Laura Barnes in 1940 as the Arboretum School, the Barnes Horticulture Education program has educated generations of passionate horticulturists and today continues the tradition of transforming good gardeners into great gardeners.

Includes box lunch, wine reception, and a private viewing of the Barnes collection
