Design with Confidence! A step-by-step approach

Designing a garden can be overwhelming. By learning to measure your garden space, put it on paper, make design decisions, and communicate your ideas using quick landscape graphics, you'll save money, time, and back pain. Students practice landscape design and plant combination skills to get a boost of gardening confidence.

Soils Boot Camp

Instructor: Scott Guiser, MS in horticulture
Good soils are the foundation of plant health. Learn about the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils that promote optimum plant growth. Topics include soil amendments, fertilizers, compost, and soil testing.

Weed Science

Instructor: Scott Guiser, MS in horticulture
Weeds grow wherever we cultivate plants. This course addresses the biology of weeds and discusses integrated pest management. Learn about common weeds like crabgrass, poison ivy, and ragweed and recent invasive species like giant knotweed, Japanese stiltgrass, and mile-a-minute.

Contemporary Botanical Illustration

Instructor: Marylyn Waltzer, certified botanical illustrator
Develop line drawing and watercolor skills to create highly detailed and accurate botanical paintings. Learn how colors interact in watercolor and explore floral structure, form, and elements of composition. All levels welcome.

Designed for those who are new to gardening or have dabbled a bit but can’t seem to get it right. Learning the basic functions of plants; how to test your soil; and the fundamentals of plant selection, installation, and maintenance gets you on your way to a greener thumb.
