Understanding World Art: The Modern Imaginary: Primitivism, Classicism, and Modernism

This course looks at the lives and works of Giorgio de Chirico, Henri Matisse, Amedeo Modigliani, and Henri Rousseau. Examine their practice between the end of the 19th century and the end of World War I from a historical angle. Topics include the importance of primitivism, classicism, and modernism on their works. We also look at how they participated in and were shaped by their artistic community.
