Lost Gardens of the Main Line

Director of Programs at Winterthur, Jeff Groff explores some of the great gardens and estates of the Main Line from the 1870s to 1930s. This lecture looks at the changing garden styles and the work of noteworthy landscape architects such as the Olmsted Brothers, Warren Manning, Ellen Biddle Shipman, Oglesby Paul, and Thomas Sears. Garden features and furniture are also included. Using historic photographs, Mr. Groff will highlight notable gardens such as Dolobran and Allgates in Haverford, Pembroke in Bryn Mawr, Bloomfield and Launfal in Villanova, and Penshurst in Penn Valley. Light refreshments to follow.
