Cézanne's "Constructive Stroke"

André Dombrowski, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Pennsylvania and author of Cézanne, Murder, and Modern Life, considers Cézanne's Provençal landscapes, especially the Barnes Foundation's own The Spring House (1879) and Hunting Cabin in Provence (1888-1890), in relation to the architectural metaphors embedded in the painter's practice of applying "constructive strokes."
