April 7, 2008, Lower Merion, PA - The Barnes Foundation today announced the appointment of Bruce S. Gordon to its
Board of Trustees. In his role as trustee, Mr. Gordon will assist the Foundation in continuing the mission of Dr. Albert C.

houses one of the largest collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and early Modern paintings in the world.
Mr. Gordon, who worked for 35 years in the telecommunications industry, retired in 2003 after serving as President of the
Retail Markets Group for Verizon Communications. In this role, he managed a 35,000 person work force and was accountable

including Vice-President of Sales, Group President of Consumer and Small Business Services and Group President of Enterprise
Business.
Mr. Gordon is the former President and CEO of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), serving
from 2005 to 2007. During his tenure, Gordon added more than 100,000 members and associates to the NAACP.

trustee of Gettysburg College and Lincoln Center.
In 2007, Mr. Gordon was inducted to the American Advertising Federation Hall of Fame.
"Bruce Gordon is an extraordinary addition to the Barnes Foundation Board of Trustees," said Dr. Bernard C. Watson, Barnes
Foundation Board of Trustees Chairman. "His business credentials and character are impeccable and his board experience in
support of education and the arts make him well suited for this role, we are very eager to engage him."
Mr. Gordon holds a B.A. from Gettysburg College, a M.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of
Management, and an honorary doctorate from Gettysburg College. He currently resides in New York City with his wife,
Tawana Tibbs. His son, Taurin, lives in Philadelphia, PA.
Bruce S. Gordon joins the Barnes Foundation Board of Trustees at an exciting time for the institution, which is well
underway with plans to construct a new art education center in Philadelphia to house its world-renowned art collection
in a gallery that will replicate the scale, proportion and configuration of the existing gallery in Merion, PA. In
addition, the center will provide a substantial increase in space for art education programs, in the form of classrooms,
seminar rooms, and an auditorium. The center will also include much-needed facilities for conservation, research and
administration; a gallery for special exhibitions; a retail shop and restaurant; and areas for special events and visitor
services.
