The Barnes Foundation Holds its 5th Annual Plant Sale, April 29 & 30
Popular Spring Event to Benefit the Arboretum
Merion, PA - The Arboretum of The Barnes Foundation will hold its 5th Annual Plant Sale on
Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, 2006, rain or shine, in the yard of the Arboretum House,
57 Lapsley Lane, Merion, PA. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the historic Arboretum and the
Horticulture Program of The Barnes Foundation.
Underscoring the popularity of this annual benefit, the Arboretum is expanding the sale this year
into a two-day event. The sale begins at 10:00 a.m. and continues each day until 3:00 p.m. - "or
until we've sold out, whichever comes first," says Dr. Jacob Thomas, Director of the Arboretum.
This year's sale includes heirloom specimens propagated from Laura Barnes's own collection.
Highlights include exquisite and unusual tropicals and an extensive selection of annuals,
perennials, and herbs. The Arboretum plant sale gives visitors the opportunity to dress their
gardens with some of the finest specimens available-and even to get gardening tips from
experienced staff and volunteers of the Arboretum.
Payment is by cash or check only. Barnes Society members showing a membership card will
receive a 10% discount on purchases.
Visitors may reach the Arboretum House and plant sale only through Lapsley Lane, off City
Avenue. Visitors to the Plant Sale are asked not to use the main gate of The Barnes
Foundation. The entrance to Lapsley Lane is at the traffic light on City Avenue, directly across
from St. Joseph's University near the pedway. Parking can be found along Lapsley Lane near
The Barnes Foundation.
