Lower Merion, PA, December 18, 2007 – Bernard C. Watson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Barnes Foundation has announced the election of Joseph Neubauer to the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and the appointment of Brenda Taggart Thompson as a Barnes Foundation Board Member. Dr. Thompson was elected unanimously at the most recent board meeting and will replace Stephanie K. Bell-Rose, who completed her term.
Dr. Watson said, “Mr. Neubauer has worked tirelessly for the Barnes Foundation in his role as Trustee. As Chair of the Development Committee Mr. Neubauer has played a key role in our fund raising efforts and his talent and vast experience as a leader in both business and in philanthropy has been an invaluable asset to the Barnes Foundation. I look forward to working with him as Vice Chairman as we move ahead in building a new home for the art collection, fulfilling the educational mission and ensuring the future of the Barnes Foundation.”

Joseph Neubauer is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ARAMARK. With sales of approximately $12.4 billion, ARAMARK is a leading provider of a broad range of professional services including food, hospitality, facility, and uniform services. Mr. Neubauer serves on the Board of Directors of Macy’s Inc., Verizon Communications, Wachovia Corporation, Catalyst and the Jewish Theological Seminary. He also serves on the Board of Trustees for Tufts University and the University of Chicago. In 2005, Neubauer received the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship. In 1994, he was inducted into the prestigious Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans and currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Neubauer received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
Brenda Taggart Thompson received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from Saint Louis University in 1980. She was an Assistant Professor at Morehouse College in the Department of Psychology, before focusing on child and adolescent mental health, first as a Clinical Psychologist and then as a School Psychologist. Dr. Thompson shares a passion for collecting African-American art with her husband Larry D. Thompson and they have amassed a remarkable collection since 1980. A show containing selections from their collection will be open next year at the David C. Driskell Center in Maryland. Dr. Thompson has two sons and lives with her husband in Greenwich, Connecticut.
