What's a Jawn(t)?

Join us for an evening tour full of make-believe as we play fast and loose with everything you thought you knew about the Barnes. In Philadelphia, jawn is a catch-all word for anything. A Barnes Jawn(t) is an anything-goes tour of the collection with a fascinating Philly personality as your guide. These off-the-cuff, sure-to-run-off-the-rails tours are led by a diverse array of community leaders, artists, and comic-book nerds—all experts in their fields. No two tours will be the same. After taking a Jawn(t), you’ll never look at the Barnes the same way again!

Tour guides for this six-part series, running July 17–August 21, are Ashley Vogel, Mo Manklang, Madhusmita Bora, Elicia Gonzales, Chris Grant, Jas Morrell, Ariell R. Johnson, Shani Akilah, Morgan FitzPatrick Andrews, and Rev. Nicolas O’Rourke.

Created by Obvious Agency.

Meet the Guide

Rev. Nicolas O’Rourke is the assistant pastor at the Living Water United Church of Christ in Oxford Circle and a faith-based community organizer for POWER: Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild. Since joining POWER’s staff, he has worked toward dismantling the crippling effects of mass incarceration and police brutality on people of color and combating Islamophobia in Philadelphia. Rev. O’Rourke considers himself a “sacred activist,” fighting for the rights of people with the guidance of God.

About the Organizer
