About the Event

Philadelphia’s Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra champions cultural diversity in classical music. This impressive collection of musicians plays a mix of musical styles that connect countries, cultures, and communities in exciting ways. Before Black Pearl takes the stage, enjoy an opening set by harpist Claire Thai, a student at the Curtis Institute of Music.

Between the performances, catch a lively conversation inspired by Suzanne Valadon: Model, Painter, Rebel. Jeri Lynne Johnson, Black Pearl’s artistic director and founder, joins Valerie Gay, our deputy director for audience engagement & chief experience officer. Learn how Johnson, a Black woman composer and conductor, defied the odds to break new ground in her field by founding her own orchestra.

Collection and exhibition access included.

6:30 – 7pm: Harpist Claire Thai
7:15 – 7:45pm: Conversation with Jeri Lynne Johnson and Valerie Gay
8 – 9pm: Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra
