About the Event
Philadelphia trombonist and bandleader Dan Blacksberg is bringing klezmer to the Barnes with his band Freilachs Music. Klezmer, the traditional Jewish music of Eastern Europe, has gone through radical changes from its inception to become the global genre it is today. Featuring trumpet legend Susan Watts, Freilachs Music draws on tradition but infuses old-world klezmer with a contemporary sound.
Collection and special exhibition access included.
Cocktails and light fare available for purchase, including pierogis, kielbasa, and beef Stroganoff with buttery noodles.
Don't miss our terrace! You can enjoy your drinks and light bites on one of the largest covered outdoor spaces in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia native Dan Blacksberg has created a singular voice as a trombonist, composer, and educator. He is known for a formidable virtuosity and extreme versatility. It is not unusual to see him switch between traditional klezmer, straight-ahead jazz, country, or even heavy metal on his trombone. He is currently a resident of the Kimmel Center Jazz Residency program.
First Fridays! are supported by Billie Tsien and Tod Williams.
