About the Tour

Members are invited to join us online for a tour focused on Dr. Barnes’s 1923 exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.

One hundred years ago, in April 1923, Dr. Barnes first unveiled his collection of modern European art to the American public. He arranged an exhibition of 75 newly acquired paintings and sculptures at PAFA, but the show was panned. This sparked a veritable firestorm between Dr. Barnes and the aesthetically conservative Philadelphia press. In this virtual experience, see which of these works remain in the collection and learn more about their stormy public reception a century ago.

Registrants will be emailed a link for the talk the day prior.
