About the Tour

Members are invited to take a closer look at the work of Chaïm Soutine in-person in the Barnes collection. Soutine, a Russian-born painter who emigrated to Paris in 1913, had a fascination with the grotesque, an ability to imbue his paintings with emotion, and a tremendous facility to build fascinating textures in paint. His work is featured in the Roberts Gallery in Soutine / de Kooning, but our permanent collection also has 16 of his paintings on display. Learn about Soutine’s life and legacy, consider Dr. Barnes’s role in discovering the bohemian artist early in his career, and see some of Soutine’s most important work up close.

Led by a specially trained docent, this tour is a private one-hour experience for members only. Maximum four guests per tour. Reservations are required, and tours must be requested at least three days in advance. To learn more or to reserve a tour, call 215.278.7200.
