About the Event
It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means free admission at the Barnes. Enjoy fun art activities, performances, and free access to the second-floor collection galleries and From Paris to Provence: French Painting at the Barnes.
Today’s performances are part of the annual Steve Weiss Mallet Festival, an exciting introduction to the world of mallet percussion for all ages. Renowned jazz vibraphonist Tony Miceli directs a dynamic and inspiring youth ensemble—immerse yourself in the rich sounds and rhythms of mallet instruments. After the show, take part in hands-on activities for the whole family, including opportunities to explore percussion instruments.
Registration opens Thursday, July 31, at 10 am.

Performances by Steve Weiss Mallet Festival
Led by director Tony Miceli, this youth percussion ensemble returns to the Barnes with an engaging vibraphone performance for all ages. Miceli is an educator and recording artist with 40 years of experience who performs frequently at Chris’s Jazz Café in Philadelphia and annually at the Percussive Arts Society convention in Indianapolis. Miceli and his ensemble promise a delightful day of musical engagement for the whole family.
