About the Event
It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means free admission at the Barnes. Enjoy fun art activities, performances, and free access to the collection and Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secrets.
Experience the extraordinary talents of the Philadelphia Youth Concert Band PYCB, presented by the PYO Music Institute. Since 1939, the institute has been providing nationally recognized music education and performance experiences to young instrumentalists, while engaging audiences and communities throughout the Delaware Valley and beyond. Join us as these rising artists bring the vibrant sound of a full concert band into the heart of the Barnes with their program “American Musical Masters: Reimagined and Retold,” which features works by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more.
Registration opens Thursday, December 4, at 10am.

Barnes Student Art Show
This new pilot program in partnership with Central High School celebrates the creativity and voices of Philadelphia students. Inspired by the expressive color and emotion of Henri Matisse and the fauvist movement, students explore culture, tradition, and identity through watercolor paintings. Their final works are on view today in the Lower Level Lobby. See the paintings and join us for a presentation from 11am to noon in the Comcast NBCUniversal Auditorium.

Performances by the Philadelphia Youth Concert Band
The Philadelphia Youth Concert Band is a program division of the PYO Music Institute, one of the nation’s longest-running youth orchestra organizations. Founded in 1939, the institute provides nationally recognized music education and performance experiences to young instrumentalists ages 5 through 22. This month, the PYCB is performing “American Musical Masters: Reimagined and Retold,” which works by Stephen Sondheim, Leonard Bernstein, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and more. Don’t miss these special live performances by Philadelphia’s finest youth musicians.
