Free / Family / Music / Social / Performance

Sunday, February 3, 10am – 5pm

Free, with priority access for families with children under 18. Tickets are available on-site starting at 10am.

About the Event

It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means free admission at the Barnes! Visitors have access to the collection plus all our family activities and entertainment.

Today is about empowerment and pushing creativity forward. Explore, experiment, and play throughout the day and see why art is for everyone!

What's On

10am – 4pm Art Making

Compose self-portraits from a collage of art materials and words. Make peace flags and buttons. Design creative valentines and works of art to show love for others and yourself. Find inspiration in artist Joseph Cornell’s shadow boxes to make art from found objects.

Activities change throughout the day.

10:30am, 11:15am Storytime

Join Baby WordPlay this month for heartwarming tales and sing-alongs! Our storytellers spark young imaginations and bring joy to all for a spirited start to the day.

Noon – 2pm Open Studio: Eric Goldberg

Head out to the Mural Arts Studio at the Barnes to see a printing demonstration by Let’s Connect artist-in-residence Eric Goldberg.

Deep in the Valley, a print by Eric Goldberg

1 – 1:30pm, 2 – 2:30pm Dance: Hip Hop Fundamentals

In this interactive performance, Philly’s Hip Hop Fundamentals will explore how young pioneers pushed the limits of performance by creating the world’s most dynamic dance style—breakdancing. Watch and participate as these world-class talents show off their skills, celebrating a uniquely expressive art form whose rich cultural history is rooted in youth empowerment.

1 – 3pm Interactive Art Project: Weaving

Watch a weaving come to life! Inspired by their participation in the Barnes’s Artist Voices program, seventh-grade students from Fitler Academics Plus school will create a weaving that reflects the collective voice of their community.

Getting Tickets

Free tickets are available on-site at 10am, include collection access, and are limited to four per person. Families with children under 18 get priority access to the collection at the time of arrival. Tickets go fast, but you don’t need one to enjoy our other activities and performances. Just drop by anytime during the day!
