PECO Free First Sunday Family Day: Summer Solstice

Free, with priority access for families with children under 18. Tickets are available on-site starting at 10am.

About the Event

It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means free admission at the Barnes! Visitors have access to the collection, plus all our family activities and entertainment.

Today, we’re celebrating the arrival of summer with art that takes us outdoors and into open spaces.


What's On

10am – 4pm

Art Making

Floral fun! Make Matisse-inspired cutouts and collages, paper flowers, wildflower watercolor paintings, and seed bombs for guerrilla gardening.

Activities change throughout the day.


10:30am, 11:15am


Join local storytellers from Baby Wordplay for lively stories, song, and movement. Ms. Martina and Ms. Pam are ready to engage audiences of all ages!


12 – 2pm

Let's Connect Open Studio Hours

Drop by the Mural Arts Studio to meet painter Jonathan D. Pinkett and learn about his work during open studio hours. Jonathan was selected for residency as a part of Let's Connect: Philly's Artists Take on the Barnes.

1 - 4pm

Music: Drum Like a Lady

Drum Like a Lady is bringing the beats of the world, featuring frame drumming by MidEastDrum NYC at 1pm, traditional Korean percussion group the East Wind at 2pm, and Brazilian samba music by Unidos da Filadelfia at 3pm.

Gather outside by the fountain at 3:45pm to see a finale featuring all performers led by LaTreice V. Branson, founder of Drum Like a Lady.


Getting Tickets

Free tickets are available on-site at 10am, include collection access, and are limited to four per person. Families with children under 18 get priority access to the collection at the time of arrival. Tickets go fast, but you don’t need one to enjoy our other activities and performances. Just drop by anytime during the day!
