About the Tour

The Barnes is temporarily closed to the public, and all tours have been postponed until further notice. More information.

Each month, our Spotlight Tours focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection.

Timed with the opening of the special exhibition Elijah Pierce’s America, our June tour is devoted to the American artists in the Barnes collection. Nearly a quarter of all the paintings collected by Albert Barnes were created by American artists, among them Marsden Hartley, William Glackens, Charles Demuth, Maurice Prendergast, and Charles Prendergast. Learn about Dr. Barnes’s relationship with many of these great artists and how they brought modernism to America.

Before and after the tour, you’re invited to explore the collection and, beginning June 14, the Pierce exhibition.
