About the Tour

Each month, we focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection.

In September and October, we're taking a closer look at the impressionist movement. Today, we view impressionist artworks, with their vivid colors and soft edges, as beautiful, serene, and expressive. In the late 19th century, however, impressionism was considered a drastic departure from the traditions of art, an attack on the establishment. The style was unfinished, unpolished, and confusing in its elevation of the everyday as subject matter. Learn about artists who were pivotal to this first movement of modern art, including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, and Camille Pissarro, and how their radical breakaway changed the way people think about art today.

After the tour, you're invited to explore the collection galleries.

Stay tuned—we'll announce the topic of our November tour in mid-October.
