About the Tour
Each month, Spotlight Tours focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection.
“He is the true enchanter, whose spell operates, not upon the senses, but upon the imagination and the heart.”
—Washington Irving
This tour takes you on an enchanted journey through the Barnes collection to see how artists create their spellbinding works. Learn how Cézanne paints still-life apples that seem to magically move; how Seurat conjures colors; how Pippin, instead of using a wand, makes images appear with a hot poker on wood; and how Rousseau summons lost loved ones on canvas. Plus, see Egyptian and African works that may have been used in the performance of spells.
Includes access to the collection before and after the tour.
