About the Tour
Each month, Spotlight Tours focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection.
“One of the finest hopes I have is that the Foundation will give the true inspiration to painters that will enable them to find themselves.” —Dr. Barnes to artist and educator Hugh H. Breckenridge, February 26, 1925
Every single work in the Barnes collection started as an idea in an artist’s mind. These ideas were nurtured, sketched, and tested before they were brought into the world and received by the public. Albert Barnes bought and displayed art from every stage of the creative process to use as teaching tools for students at the Barnes, many of whom were artists themselves. This tour guides you through the process of creating a work of art and allows you to step into the mind of an artist like Cézanne, Picasso, or Daumier.
Includes access to the collection before and after the tour.
Please note: Rooms 2–13 of the first-floor galleries are closed through Sept. 5 for a floor refinishing project. Many major works will be on view in From Paris to Provence: French Painting at the Barnes, June 29–Aug. 31, in our Roberts Gallery.
