About the Tour
Each month, Spotlight Tours focus on a different artist or theme, allowing for a deeper dive into specific areas of the collection.
In the early 20th century, many critics and the public at large found Paul Cézanne’s paintings to be almost incomprehensible. They featured ungainly figures, roughly painted surfaces, and confusing perspectives. But Albert Barnes never wavered in his belief that Cézanne was a great painter. He ended up owning 69 works by the artist, including still lifes, portraits, landscapes, and figure paintings. This tour explores some of Cézanne’s most iconic works and how his distinctive style and practice influenced later generations of artists.
