About the Class

Why are women artists underrepresented in museum collections? Learn how the socioeconomic conditions of the times suppressed the creativity of talented women from the 15th century onward. Sometimes female artists faced threats to their own safety; more often, they endured social and familial censure. Explore the obstacles confronted even by the 20th-century women whose paintings hang in the Barnes collection.

Instructor

Linda Robinson

Linda Robinson, MA, studied at the Barnes Foundation as a student of Violette de Mazia. Before joining the teaching staff at the Barnes six years ago, Robinson taught adult art history classes at local colleges.
