“Humor, irony, sex, human stupidity, commerce, art, and politics are central to my inquiry. My work will not offer a placebo for trauma, self-care, nor healing, nor depict illusory spaces. That is a task for others. My preference, hope, and interest are to provide an opportunity for reflection on the state of affairs of a culture, communicated through painting.” —Rochelle Feinstein

Over the past four decades, American artist Rochelle Feinstein (b. 1947) has developed an oeuvre in which a wide range of abstract painting practices—from rigid geometric abstraction to fluid color field—are subtly, cleverly infiltrated by social and political concerns. The Today Show presents recent multimedia works where she employs the visual vocabulary of gestural expressionism to novel ends.

The exhibition, co-organized by the Vienna Secession, Kunsthaus Glarus, and Ludwig Forum Aachen and curated for the Barnes by Thom Collins, Neubauer Family Executive Director and President, will present more than 50 mixed-media paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. The Barnes has also commissioned 11 new large-scale artworks, produced in partnership with the Fabric Workshop and Museum, for display in the Annenberg Court.
