About the Event

Enjoy an evening of art, live music, cocktails, and light fare at our monthly First Friday mixer. Tonight, we welcome back Philadelphia’s own Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, led by acclaimed conductor Jeri Lynne Johnson. Celebrating the seminal Black Composer Series, originally released on vinyl in the 1970s and reissued in 2019, this performance is part of a new concert series highlighting Black artists in classical music. Between performances, Johnson will engage the guest artists in a lively conversation about the works.

Program:

  • An original solo cello work composed and performed by Ajibola Rivers
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis featuring guest conductor Jaman Dunn-Danger
  • Julia Perry’s “Stabat Mater” featuring mezzo-soprano Zoie Reams

Performances at 7 and 7:45pm.
Conversation and Q&A at 7:30pm.

First Friday at the Barnes includes access to the collection.

Seating is limited. Cocktails and light fare are available for purchase.

In the mood for something heartier? The Garden Restaurant is open for dinner during First Friday. Make a reservation between 6 and 8pm.
