About the Talk
Join us for a captivating talk with artist and educator Deborah Willis, presented in partnership with the Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection at Temple University. Willis will discuss her newest book, Reflections in Black: A Reframing, the 25th anniversary edition of Reflections in Black: A History of Black Photographers: 1840 to the Present.
Originally published at the turn of the millennium, Reflections in Black marked the first comprehensive history of Black photographers. The groundbreaking collection featured images of African American life by undisputed masters such as James Van Der Zee, Gordon Parks, and Carrie Mae Weems. In this edition, Willis adds more than 200 new images, bringing us into the 21st century.
Willis will be joined in conversation with moderator Dyana Williams and a panel of Philadelphia-area photographers: Lonnie Graham, Nashormeh Lindo, Ron Tarver, and Wendel White.
This talk will be held in the Comcast NBCUniversal Auditorium and includes access to the collection galleries and Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secrets.
Reflections in Black: A Reframing will be available for purchase at the Barnes Shop.
