Museum Facilities Specialist ($23.21/hr)

Full-time (5–11 pm) / Philadelphia

The Museum Facilities Specialist is responsible under the general supervision of the Facilities Manager for providing a first-class experience to visitors, guests, and employees by maintaining the foundation’s building and grounds with continual care and maintenance.

Vice President of Art and Education and Gund Family Chief Curator

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

The Vice President of Art and Education and Gund Family Chief Curator is an accomplished scholar, enterprising leader, and collaborative administrator. Reporting to the Neubauer Family Executive Director and President, the Vice President of Art and Education will serve as a key member of the Barnes’s senior leadership team, and, working in close partnership with the Executive Director, provide strategic vision and leadership for the planning, priority-setting, integration, and stewardship of a forward-looking and financially sustainable institution. They will shape the curatorial and educational vision for the institution in alignment with and reflecting the larger strategic goals of the Barnes. They will organize and publish their own curatorial projects while overseeing the curatorial, collections, conservation, registration, exhibitions, and research, interpretation, adult learning, and academic programs departments. Art Director ($80,000–$90,000)

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

The Art Director is an accomplished designer with vision, initiative, and autonomy who can act as creative partner, internal critic, and sounding board. As a member of the Brand team, the Art Director executes the Barnes Foundation’s brand strategy and ensures consistency across media by managing the design of print and digital materials for marketing, education, and membership. As head of the Design department, the Art Director oversees the work of the Senior Designer and manages the departmental budget.

Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist, Overnight Museum Security ($21.01/hr)

Full-time (11 pm–7 am) / Philadelphia

The Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist plays a key role in frontline operations by providing the team with constant visual surveillance information and access control. The Senior Specialist provides an exceptional guest and staff experience while ensuring the safety and protection of the art collection, building, and grounds.

Grants Manager ($75,000–$83,000)

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

The Grants Manager assists in the implementation of a comprehensive institutional fundraising program, securing restricted and unrestricted support from new and returning institutional donors, including foundations, corporate foundations, and government entities. Alongside the Director of Foundation Relations and Government Grants, this position works from an approved set of organizational fundraising priorities, including a wide range of education, exhibition, program, strategic priority, and endowment opportunities.

Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist, Day Shift ($19.48/hr)

Full-time (weekends required) / Philadelphia

The Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist plays a key role in frontline operations by providing the team with constant visual surveillance information and access control to help provide an exceptional guest and staff experience, as well as to ensure the safety and protection of the art collection and the foundation’s buildings and grounds. The Senior Specialist provides a best-in-class experience to every person who works in and visits our institution.

Guest and Protection Services Associate ($17.95/hr)

Full-time / Philadelphia

Guest and Protection Services Associates provide a best-in-class experience to every person who visits our institution. As the first line of interaction between the Barnes Foundation and all guests, the Guest and Protection Services (GPS) Associate sets the tone for an exceptional guest experience, making the “customer centered” concept a daily reality in all interactions, decisions, and exchanges with guests. GPS Associates are part of a team that is truly the face of the Barnes and work under the direction of the Director of Guest and Protection Services to ensure a visit to the Barnes is informative, friendly, respectful, and efficient.

Internships

We offer summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent college graduates. Interns work with experts in their fields, gain valuable job experience, and engage in meaningful work that supports our educational mission. 

The application deadline for summer 2026 internships has passed. The application for summer 2027 internships will open in fall 2026.

All Barnes internships are paid. Undergraduate students receive $15 per hour. Graduate students receive $18 per hour.

The summer internship program runs from the first week of June through the second week of August. Interns work two or three days per week and are required to work on Fridays, when all interns participate in enrichment activities.

The Barnes is committed to increasing the diversity of our internship cohort. Volunteering

Volunteering at the Barnes provides unique access to our collections, programs, and staff, as well as opportunities to work with other art and horticulture enthusiasts. We are not accepting volunteer applications at this time.

Calder Gardens is currently accepting horticulture volunteer applications. Horticulture volunteers work alongside horticulture staff to help keep the gardens healthy and beautiful. Tasks include weeding, cutting back perennials in the spring, planting, and mulching. Previous gardening experience is helpful but not required.
