About Barnes North
Barnes North introduces artist-led experiences centered on joy and wellness to North Philadelphia neighborhoods. This initiative builds on the success of Barnes West, our creative placemaking program serving West Philadelphia since 2018. Celebrating North Philly’s vibrant neighborhoods and unique voices, Barnes North will foster new connections between artists, residents, businesses, and agencies that are deeply invested in uplifting their own communities.
Announcing 2025 Everyday Places Artist Partnerships
Artists are at the core of our community-centered work, and creative spaces are vital to the success of Everyday Places Artist Partnerships. From August to October, three social impact artists will partner with “everyday” locations in the neighborhood—including public parks, civic centers, and community organizations—to build participatory projects for all. See who’s coming to your neighborhood this summer!

E. Morales-Williams at Norris Square Neighborhood Project & Norris Square Senior Center
Author and land steward E. Morales-Williams (they/them) will lead a series of poetry and dance/movement workshops at Norris Square Senior Community Center and Norris Square Neighborhood Project titled “Between You and Me / Entre Tu y Yo.” The workshop series focuses on intergenerational relationships by connecting young voices with community elders through reflective writing prompts, somatic movement, and shared cultures.

Chela Ixcopal at Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden
Educator and visual artist Chela Ixcopal (he/they) will collaborate with the Open Kitchen Sculpture Garden to facilitate a workshop series framing food as a conduit for community care, cultural identity, and shared joy. Neighbors and community members can share food traditions, cultural recipes, and ancestral knowledge, which may inform a community cookbook and screen-printing workshop.

Alyssa Reynoso-Morris at North Philly Peace Park
Children’s book author Alyssa Reynoso-Morris (she/her) will facilitate an outdoor series titled “Stories Grow Here” for families in partnership with the North Philly Peace Park. Participants will explore the natural world around them, documenting their observations and experiences through written and creative exercises and embarking on a literary journey through Reynoso-Morris’s award-winning books.
