The Barnes Foundation is a nonprofit cultural and educational institution that shares its unparalleled art collection with the public, organizes special exhibitions, and presents programming that fosters new ways of thinking about human creativity.

In spring 2026, the Barnes Foundation will present Freedom Dreams, an exhibition of powerful works in film, video, and installation by an intergenerational cohort of Black artists interested in exploring history, archives, and cultural memory. The exhibition features works by Arthur Jafa, David Hartt, Garrett Bradley, Ja’Tovia Gary, and Tourmaline that dismantle pervasive narratives around race, gender, and class in American history.

Thom Collins, Neubauer Family Executive Director and President of the Barnes Foundation, today announced that Will Cary has been appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

The Barnes Foundation has announced special extended hours between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s holidays, opening at 9 am on select days. As always, general admission tickets are valid for two consecutive days. During operating hours, the Garden Restaurant will be open 11 am–3 pm, with last seating at 2:30 pm, and Reflections Café will be open 11 am–4 pm.

The Barnes Foundation has announced its annual benefit, the Barnes Art Ball, taking place on Friday, October 17. This year’s Art Ball brings together artists, philanthropists, collectors, connectors, and community partners for an art-filled celebration of the Barnes. Funds raised directly support the Barnes’s educational mission, exhibition program, and care of the collection, and an array of artistic, community, and scholarly initiatives.

The Barnes Foundation has announced Barnes Create & Connect, a new workshop series designed to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and their care partners through meaningful experiences with art and creative expression. Presented in partnership with the Parkinson Council, this free program focuses on connection—between participants, with works of art, and through shared moments of reflection and making.

In fall 2025, the Barnes Foundation presents Henri Rousseau: A Painter’s Secrets, a landmark exhibition of paintings by the self-taught artist Henri Rousseau (1844–1910), featuring works from the Barnes collection and museums around the world. The exhibition runs from October 19, 2025 to February 22, 2026.

The Barnes Foundation has announced the expanded use of its innovative online learning technology, the Visual Experience Platform (VXP), through a new partnership with the Penn Museum. Beginning in fall 2025, the Penn Museum will host its popular Deep Dig classes and virtual lecture series, Archaeology in Action, on the VXP.

The Barnes Foundation announces the eighth annual Barnes on the Block, in collaboration with Mural Arts Philadelphia, taking place on Sunday, July 13, 11 am–5 pm. Barnes on the Block with Mural Arts Philadelphia is presented by PNC Arts Alive.

This summer, the Barnes Foundation and Mural Arts Philadelphia present Where I’m From, an exhibition of original work created by artists from Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Rec Crew, a 24-week job readiness and life skills program for justice-impacted young adults, and artists at State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix, southeast Pennsylvania’s maximum-security prison for men. Free with general admission to the Barnes, Where I’m From will be on view in the second-floor classroom of the Collection Gallery from July 5 through August 25, 2025.
