School Programs
Come to the Barnes, or we’ll come to you. Our programs will nourish your students’ imaginations and serve your curricular goals.
Student Art Gallery
The Barnes uses art to inspire creativity and connections for students of all ages. Our virtual gallery, featuring a range of ages, schools, and styles, is updated regularly. Learn more and submit work for consideration today.
2025–26 Partner Programs
The Barnes provides free in-depth programming to students in grades 3, 5, and 7 in select partner schools in the School District of Philadelphia and Catholic schools in the Delaware Valley. Enjoy these artworks, which were created during in-school lessons throughout the 2025–26 school year, and learn more about our programs and field trips.
Grade 3 Partner Program
This program connects works of art to literacy and the English language arts curriculum. Students defined the elements of a story through discussion of works by Horace Pippin and then designed collage bookmarks to answer the the program’s central question: who are you and how would you tell someone?
Grade 5 Partner Program
Fifth-grade students participate in a STEAM-based program (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). This year, students explored printmaking, collage, and leaf rubbings, layering them into a wearable badge that imagines a world shaped by an environmental solution they care about.

Grade 7 Partner Program
Seventh graders participate in a program that addresses Pennsylvania’s social studies standards, focusing on history and current events. Students created landscape fans inspired by Chinese painting, picturing their own city or block and saying something about the political climate where they live.
Summer Program: Barnes Art Club
This year, the Barnes continued our long-term partnership with Heights Philadelphia, an organization serving Philadelphia teens by providing pathways to careers and college-level education. In Barnes Art Club, an informal learning initiative, students and education specialists explored identity through 3D artmaking—Memory Jugs that express memory through assemblage and found objects and Soft Sculptures that represent comfort through fabric, scent, and pattern.
