Teacher Resources

Looking closely, listening openly, sharing observations—a pre-K–12 lesson with the Barnes Foundation encourages students to have a curious, creative voice. Use the resources below to extend your students’ learning and sign up for teacher emails  to stay informed of new opportunities.

Art of Math Challenge

Students in grades 1–12 take on the Art of Math Challenge in teams of three or more. Each submission consists of a 3D model of one of three selected artworks from the Barnes collection and a written statement. The competition culminates with a display of qualifying models at the Barnes’s PECO Free First Sunday Family Day, where winners are announced, prizes are awarded, and participants are honored in a grand ceremony! Sign up for teacher emails to be notified about the 2027 competition.

Sky Hopinka: Red Metal Dust (March 21, 2026–January 18, 2027)
Sky Hopinka (Ho-Chunk Nation/Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians) is a widely celebrated artist who works in video, photography, and text. His art centers around personal perspectives of Indigenous homelands and landscapes. To mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, the Barnes commissioned Hopinka to create this 11-panel installation that explores and interrogates the American experience and its histories. On view in the Annenberg Court.
