About the Event
Today’s program features a screening of director Shuja Moore’s short documentary Pardon Me (2023) followed by a moderated discussion and audience Q&A with Moore and a panel of experts.
The film highlights the journeys of two people burdened by their criminal records and illuminates Pennsylvania’s pardon process and how it is possible repair the generational harm caused by the enduring consequences of past arrests. The panel will explore the themes of the film and engage in a conversation about what it takes to build safer communities and what forgiveness, accountability, and second chances really mean.
This program is presented alongside Just Us, our annual restorative justice exhibition.

Moore is an award-winning filmmaker from West Philadelphia. His documentary Pardon Me (2023) has been presented by museums, universities, legal organizations, public agencies, and community organizations across the country, sparking conversations about justice, accountability, and second chances. His perspective is informed by a lived experience navigating incarceration, reentry, and civic leadership. His work has been recognized by the American Bar Association and the American Society of Criminology.
