The Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist plays a key role in frontline operations by providing the team with constant visual surveillance information and access control. The Senior Specialist provides an exceptional guest and staff experience while ensuring the safety and protection of the art collection, building, and grounds.

Part-Time Shop Sales Specialist ($18.72/hr)

The Barnes Shop Sales Specialist is responsible for delivering consistent and superior customer service in the Barnes Shop while selling products that support the educational and revenue goals of the institution.

General Ledger Accountant ($65,000–75,000)

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

The General Ledger Accountant assists in generating timely and accurate financial statements for the Barnes and provides general accounting customer service to staff.

Grants Manager ($75,000–83,000)

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

The Grants Manager assists in the implementation of a comprehensive institutional fundraising program, securing restricted and unrestricted support from new and returning institutional donors, including foundations, corporate foundations, and government entities. Alongside the Director of Foundation Relations and Government Grants, this position works from an approved set of organizational fundraising priorities, including a wide range of education, exhibition, program, strategic priority, and endowment opportunities.

Box Office and Call Center Specialist ($18.72/hr)

Part-time (24 hrs/wk; weekends required) / Philadelphia

The Box Office and Call Center Specialist is the first point of contact with guests to the Barnes. The Specialist is responsible for consistently providing superior customer service to guests: selling tickets, tours, memberships, classes, and other Barnes programs. The Specialist ensures an efficient and welcoming entry through our ticketing process and a best-in-class experience to every person who interacts with our institution.

Digital Marketing Manager ($60,000–65,000)

Full-time / Philadelphia (hybrid)

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Brand Engagement, the Digital Marketing Manager plays a key role at the Barnes and Calder Gardens by developing and executing digital marketing strategies that balance ambitious revenue goals with mission-driven messaging in a fast-paced environment. This role emphasizes the use of digital channels, particularly email marketing, to meet the needs of current and potential audiences, deepen engagement, and drive participation and revenue.

Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist, Day Shift ($19.48/hr)

The Guest and Protection Services Senior Specialist plays a key role in frontline operations by providing the team with constant visual surveillance information and access control to help provide an exceptional guest and staff experience, as well as to ensure the safety and protection of the art collection and the foundation’s buildings and grounds. The Senior Specialist provides a best-in-class experience to every person who works in and visits our institution.

Guest and Protection Services Associate ($17.95/hr)

Full-time / Philadelphia

Guest and Protection Services Associates provide a best-in-class experience to every person who visits our institution. As the first line of interaction between the Barnes Foundation and all guests, the Guest and Protection Services (GPS) Associate sets the tone for an exceptional guest experience, making the “customer centered” concept a daily reality in all interactions, decisions, and exchanges with guests. GPS Associates are part of a team that is truly the face of the Barnes and work under the direction of the Director of Guest and Protection Services to ensure a visit to the Barnes is informative, friendly, respectful, and efficient.

Internships

We offer summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent college graduates. Interns work with experts in their fields, gain valuable job experience, and engage in meaningful work that supports our educational mission. 

The application deadline for summer 2026 internships is Friday, February 6. See descriptions below; students may apply for more than one internship.

All Barnes internships are paid. Undergraduate students receive $15 per hour. Graduate students receive $18 per hour.

The summer internship program runs from the first week of June through the second week of August. Interns work two or three days per week and are required to work on Fridays, when all interns participate in enrichment activities.

The Barnes is committed to increasing the diversity of our internship cohort. Summer Intern: Collections & Exhibitions Registration

Registration is responsible for record keeping for all art and artifacts in the Barnes collection and those on loan to the Barnes and Calder Gardens for exhibitions. This includes facilitating and tracking the movement of objects, loan correspondence, agreements, insurance, exhibition planning, and maintaining and updating digital and paper files. Registrars work with the Curatorial and Conservation teams to maintain best practices for the care of the collection and loan objects. Learn more and apply.

Summer Intern: Education–School Programs

The School Programs department engages students in pre-K–12th grade through in-gallery and in-school programs. The team provides culturally relevant learning opportunities that encourage curiosity and foster meaningful connections with art in a welcoming environment. Through inclusive and anti-racist teaching practices, we nurture a sense of belonging in art spaces and promote visual literacy skills, empowering students to see the possibilities in art. Summer Intern: Collections & Exhibition Research

Collections and Exhibitions Research internships include work with the Curatorial or Research and Interpretation departments. These teams are responsible for research and interpretation of the art and artifacts in the collection and the development and coordination of exhibitions. Preference is given to applicants who are graduate students in art history and whose studies cover a period of art history represented in the collection. Learn more and apply.

Summer Intern: Development

The Development department is the primary fundraising team at the Barnes. It comprises Annual Giving, Institutional Giving, Major Gifts, and Development Services. Learn more and apply.

Summer Intern: Marketing & Brand Engagement

The Marketing & Brand Engagement department works on initiatives that promote the Barnes’s exhibitions, adult education programs, other events and public programs, and the newly opened Calder Gardens, a living, evolving space for art, architecture, and introspection. The intern will gain hands-on experience developing audience-focused content, assisting with campaign strategy, and learning how a museum brings its mission to life through storytelling, digital platforms, and brand voice. Summer Intern: Conservation

The Conservation department encompasses all aspects of collections care, including preventive conservation, examination, documentation, treatment, and technical research. Internships in preventive conservation, paintings conservation, and objects conservation are available for undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students. The undergraduate internship is designed for students interested in pursuing a graduate degree in art conservation or a related field. Learn more and apply.

Summer Intern: Audience Engagement

The Audience Engagement team creates engagement initiatives and activities at the Barnes and in local communities. This team collaborates with other departments and local organizations to promote and implement our programming year-round. Multilingual educators, visual artists, and community organizers are encouraged to apply. Applicants with a passion for museum equity, direct service, and social impact are preferred. Summer Intern: Evaluation & Impact

The Evaluation & Impact department exists to deepen the institutional capacity for data-driven decision making in support of the Barnes’s mission to promote the advancement of education and the appreciation of the fine arts. We do this cross-institutionally to drive increases in visitation and program participation, optimize visitor and audience experience, monitor progress toward strategic goals, and complement departmental work as a resource and thought partner. Summer Intern: Editorial & Publications

The Editorial and Publications department is responsible for editing all of the Barnes’s print and digital publications, including exhibition materials, invitations, web pages, e-newsletters, posters, press releases, and program booklets. Learn more and apply.

Summer Intern: Archives

The mission of the Barnes Archives is to identify, preserve, organize, and make available historical records that document the activities of the Barnes Foundation, its collections, and its community, which includes staff, teachers, docents, students, and alums. The internship focuses on the accessibility of digitized archival files and will involve working with Transkribus, an AI-software platform that can perform handwritten text recognition (HTR). Summer Intern: Volunteer & Tour Programs

The Volunteer & Tour program develops and presents tours to the public as well as fulfill private requests. We work with Reserve, Advancement, Events, Membership, and Group Sales to provide guests with an introduction to the collection and special exhibition in addition to producing thematic monthly tours. Training of the docent staff is provided through close collaboration with Research, Archives, and Education to provide the most current and accurate information. Learn more and apply.

Volunteering

Volunteering at the Barnes provides unique access to our collections, programs, and staff, as well as opportunities to work with other art and horticulture enthusiasts. We are not accepting volunteer applications at this time.
