The Barnes Foundation is a nonprofit cultural and educational institution that shares its unparalleled art collection with the public, organizes special exhibitions, and presents programming that fosters new ways of thinking about human creativity.

This summer, the Barnes Foundation and Mural Arts Philadelphia present Where I’m From, an exhibition of original work created by artists from Mural Arts Philadelphia’s Rec Crew, a 24-week job readiness and life skills program for justice-impacted young adults, and artists at State Correctional Institution (SCI) Phoenix, southeast Pennsylvania’s maximum-security prison for men. Free with general admission to the Barnes, Where I’m From will be on view in the second-floor classroom of the Collection Gallery from July 5 through August 25, 2025.

Thom Collins, Neubauer Family Executive Director and President of the Barnes, today announced the appointment of Judia S. Jackson, MBA, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, as deputy director for human resources and chief culture officer. An HR professional with over 15 years’ experience in the nonprofit and business sectors, Jackson comes to the Barnes from the Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts, Inc., where she served as chief people and culture officer.

In summer 2025, the Barnes Foundation will present From Paris to Provence: French Painting at the Barnes, an exhibition featuring more than 50 iconic paintings from the first floor of the collection galleries by Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, and other European artists. Curated by Cindy Kang, this exhibition reflects the expansion of the Barnes’s educational program, emphasizing the historical and cultural context of the works. On view in the Roberts Gallery from June 29 through August 31, 2025, From Paris to Provence: French Painting at the Barnes is sponsored by Comcast NBCUniversal.

The Board of Trustees of the Barnes Foundation today announced that Sara M. Lomax, president and CEO of WURD Radio, LLC, and Leslie Anne Miller, Esq., attorney and philanthropist, have been elected to the Board of Trustees. In addition, longtime trustees the Honorable Jacqueline F. Allen and Cathy Hughes have been named Trustees Emeriti, and Christine Henisee and Cathy M. Nassau have been named Honorary Trustees.

In spring 2025, the Barnes Foundation will present the East Coast premiere of Cecily Brown: Themes and Variations, a major mid-career retrospective of pioneering British painter Cecily Brown. Co-organized by the Barnes and the Dallas Museum of Art (DMA), this exhibition is the largest presentation of Brown’s work in the US to date and her first solo exhibition in Philadelphia.

The Barnes Foundation has announced special extended hours between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s holidays, opening as early as 9 am on select days. As always, general admission tickets are valid for two consecutive days.

In celebration of the fall exhibition Mickalene Thomas: All About Love, the first major international tour focused on the work of pioneering artist Mickalene Thomas, the Barnes Foundation will present an engaging slate of programs inspired by the artist and her work. All About Love at the Barnes is curated by Renée Mussai, independent curator, scholar, and writer; the exhibition is on view in the Roberts Gallery from October 20, 2024, through January 12, 2025.

The Barnes Foundation has announced its annual benefit, the Barnes Art Ball, taking place on Friday, October 18. This year’s Art Ball brings together artists, philanthropists, collectors, connectors, and community partners for an art-filled celebration of the Barnes and creativity. Funds raised directly support our educational mission, exhibition program, and care of the collection, and a wide array of community, artistic, and scholarly projects.

Today, Saint Joseph’s University and the Barnes Foundation announced a new online graduate program designed to prepare future museum educators for roles in public and private institutions. Beginning in fall 2024, the museum education graduate program will offer a Master of Arts in Museum Education and a Museum Education Certificate.
