Martha Lucy Appointed Deputy Director and Curator of the Barnes Foundation

Philadelphia’s Barnes Foundation has named Dr. Martha Lucy deputy director for education and public programs as well as curator, Thom Collins, the museum’s executive director and president, announced today. The appointment takes effect immediately.

In a statement, Collins said, “Martha is a leader in both the educational and curatorial spheres. The Barnes Foundation is in a prime position to accelerate towards leadership and innovation in museum education, now more than ever with the valuable addition of Martha’s expertise.”

Previously, Lucy served as assistant professor of art history at Philadelphia’s Drexel University, and as associate curator of the Barnes Foundation before that. Her specialty lies in late-19th-century/early-20th-century French art and visual culture. In the same release, Lucy said: “As an educator, curator, and art historian, my passion is connecting people with art and talking about it in a way that is accessible and relevant. There is enormous opportunity for deep investigation into this incredible collection and I look forward to working with my colleagues at the Barnes to bring it to life in completely new ways.”
