Privacy Policy

The Barnes Foundation (the “Barnes”) shares your concerns about maintaining the integrity and privacy of personal information collected on the Internet. The Barnes Foundation is committed to protecting your privacy, and the following privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) is intended to explain our information collection and dissemination practices in connection with the Barnes Foundation website at (the “Site”), and mobile applications (collectively, the “Apps” or, individually, an “App”) (collectively, the Site and Apps are referred to herein as “Platforms”). (1) Collection of Personal Information on the Site
In order to monitor the Site’s performance and for statistical and routine system maintenance purposes, the Barnes may collect (a) your DNS name, IP addresses, type of computer, and type of web browser of users of the Site (“you”), and (b) information on which pages you access.

The Barnes also uses technology known as "cookies" to track usage patterns, traffic trends, and user behavior, as well as to record other information from the Site. For certain services provided on the Site, cookies allow us to save information locally so that you will not have to re-enter it the next time you visit. Many content adjustments and customer service improvements are made based on the data derived from cookies. The information we collect from cookies will not be used to create profiles of users and will only be used in aggregate form. Users should be aware that the Barnes contracts with third-party vendors for services that require the sharing of information collected via cookies. See below for more information about specific third-party vendor’s information collection practices.

(2) Collection of Personal Information on Apps
All Barnes Apps can be used without providing any personal information. Users of Apps may have the opportunity within the App to log in to certain social networking accounts (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) to share information. The Barnes does not collect or have access to any account information you may provide to log in to any such social networking websites, and the Barnes is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.

(3) Sending Us Personal Information
If you send us personal information—e.g. by submitting an email, completing an online form or survey, requesting materials or information, ordering merchandise or Barnes tickets, making a donation, or signing up for membership—we will use this information to respond to your inquiry or request. We may also use it to contact you to provide information about other Barnes activities, programs, membership and fundraising opportunities, newsletters, products, and special events that may interest you. You may opt out of having your information used by the Barnes and its agents for these purposes by unsubscribing, or you may update your email preferences at any time by clicking here.

Moreover, when we send you communications regarding Barnes programs and activities, you will always have an immediate opportunity to decline further communications by clicking unsubscribe in any email from the Barnes. You may also change your email preferences by clicking here.

(4) Use of Personal Data Collected
The Barnes does not typically sell, exchange, or release website visitors' names, email addresses, or other individually identifying information to parties outside the Barnes, except to the extent necessary to comply with applicable laws or valid legal processes, to protect the rights and property of the Barnes, or to provide the services or information you have requested (including providing information to selected third-party vendors, as necessary). If the Barnes becomes affiliated through merger or transfer of assets to any other entity or entities, then any information collected here would be shared with those affiliates, and used in the manner outlined here. In addition, it may become necessary to share your information with third parties in order to complete a transaction that traditionally was handled by the Barnes. In such a case, these third parties would be bound under contract to use the information solely for the purpose outlined in the contract.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, we note that the names and postal addresses of users who have provided such information to the Barnes may be shared with other organizations that may be of interest to you for informational, fundraising, or related purposes. In these cases, we may share your name and address with other nonprofit cultural institutions, but we will not share your email, phone number, or any other personal identifying information with these institutions. In addition, all information we do share with other institutions is provided subject to confidentiality obligations limiting the nature of the use of your information and restricting the further dissemination of your information. If you do not wish to have your name and address shared with other institutions for these purposes, you may opt out at any time by unsubscribing.

Barnes Shop
The Barnes provides visitors with an opportunity to purchase tickets and make online purchases from the Barnes retail store at When users order tickets or a product online from, the Barnes will need to collect their names, billing and shipping addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and credit card information to process their orders. Credit card information will be stored temporarily on a secured server and used only as needed to process a transaction.

Supporting the Barnes and Online Membership
The Barnes also provides visitors an opportunity to make a contribution through an online donation page or to become a member of the Barnes. When users purchase a membership or make a donation to the Barnes online, the Barnes will need to collect their names, billing and shipping addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, and credit card information to process the membership and acknowledge the contribution. Credit card information will be stored temporarily on a secured server and used only as needed to process a transaction. 

The information that you supply during any of the above transaction processes is used to fulfill your order and will also be used to track and analyze transaction trends. This information is also subject to the “Sending Us Personal Information” section above.

You may obtain a summary of any of your personally identifiable information (or that of your child) retained by us, or you may modify, correct, change, or update such information by contacting the Barnes via the postal address or email listed below.

The Platforms may contain links to other websites operated or controlled by third parties. However, the Barnes does not endorse, and is not responsible for, the privacy practices or the content of these websites. You should review these policies in connection with your use of such third-party sites.

(7) Children’s Privacy
The Barnes is concerned about protecting children’s privacy. The Barnes does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. There may be some other areas within the Platforms where children could post messages or provide feedback, but children are discouraged from providing personal information. If a user known to be a child under the age of 13 sends an email to the Barnes, we will only use it to respond to the writer and not to create profiles or otherwise retain the information.

(8) Security Measures
The online transactions conducted via the Site are protected by security features, including encryption, designed to prevent the unauthorized release of your personal financial data. We also monitor network traffic in an effort to make the Site available to all users and to identify unauthorized attempts to access, upload, or change information, or otherwise cause damage to our systems.

While the Barnes has endeavored to create secure and a reliable website, please be advised that the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to/from the Site over the Internet cannot be guaranteed. Accordingly, the Barnes and its employees, agents, officers, directors, legal representatives, predecessors, successors, and assigns are not responsible for the security of any information transmitted via the Internet. You assume the sole and complete risk for using the Platforms and must make your own determination as to these matters. Be sure to use a known and trusted secure connection and to log off when finished using a shared computer.

Unauthorized access to the Platforms is prohibited and punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act. Please be advised that when placing an online order through, your personal data will be protected in accordance with United States law but may not be at the same level of protection as is legally required in the European Union.

The Barnes reserves the right to contact users of the Platforms regarding changes to this Policy, the terms of use of the Platforms, or any other policies, agreements, or transactions relevant to users of the Platforms.
