Act 48 and Graduate Credit
22 Act 48 credits are available to Pennsylvania educators who participate in the Summer Teacher Institute, provided by the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Institute registration fee includes the cost of Act 48 credits.
Students may earn two graduate credits by completing structured assignments and paying an additional $500 in tuition to the University of the Arts. To receive graduate credits, please register separately with the University of the Arts after you complete your registration for the 2020 Summer Teacher Institute. Registration information will be shared as soon as it becomes available on UArts’s website.
Teachers earn Act 48 credit by completing one Student Learning Objectives (SLO) assignment and earn graduate credit by paying the additional $500 fee and completing a five-lesson SLO project. Time will be provided in the last half hour of each day of the institute (3–3:30 pm) to work on these assignments with a Barnes staff member. Tuition waivers cover tuition only; not the optional Act 48 or graduate credit fee.
Regular participation is an important part of the learning process. All course participants, including those with tuition waivers, are expected to attend all four days and complete all required course work by the assigned deadlines. Failing to do so, or missing one or more classes, may affect the receipt of Act 48 or graduate credits (if the participant has opted to receive these credits) and eligibility for future tuition waiver opportunities or scholarships at the Barnes.
