EXHIBITION

Ellsworth Kelly: Sculpture on the Wall

May 4 – September 2, 2013

About the Exhibition

A leading artist of the 20th and 21st centuries, Ellsworth Kelly has developed a unique approach to abstraction, mastering painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking. Often working with saturated, smoothly applied monochromatic colors and geometric forms, he derives his abstractions from natural and man-made environments.

The works in Ellsworth Kelly: Sculpture on the Wall demonstrated the artist’s interest in the intersection of art and architecture, color and form, figure and ground. Sculpture for a Large Wall, the exhibition’s monumental centerpiece, was originally installed in the Philadelphia Transportation Building and returned to the city for the first time since 1998.
