Barnes Cinema: Tiguex by Raven Chacon

Chacon is a Pulitzer Prize–winning composer, performer, and installation artist from Fort Defiance, Navajo Nation. A solo artist, collaborator, and a former member of Postcommodity, he has presented work at LACMA, the Renaissance Society, Vancouver Art Gallery, and other major venues. Since 2004, Chacon has mentored more than 300 Native high school composers through the Native American Composer Apprentice Project. His honors include a 2023 MacArthur Fellowship, United States Artists Fellowship, Creative Capital Award, Native Arts and Cultures Foundation Fellowship, and Pew Center Fellowship-in-Residence.

Berrío is a curator, educator, and arts administrator. She is the Marsha Perelman Senior Director of Programs at Calder Gardens, where she oversees programs and the institution’s artistic direction. Berrío recently worked as the curatorial and sustainability advisor at the Whitney Museum of American Art’s Independent Study Program and previously held positions at Amant, the Walker Art Center, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, SFMOMA, and the New Museum, among others.

Today’s program is curated by Holmes, chief executive and artistic officer of BlackStar Projects. She has organized screenings at Anthology Film Archives and Whitney Museum, as well as exhibitions at ICA and Pearlstein Gallery.
