Today’s program features Gina Angelone’s 2024 documentary Sitting Still, exploring the life and work of landscape architect Laurie Olin, the influential urban designer whose vision and human-centered approach transformed how we interact with public spaces. Olin is responsible for iconic and beloved parks, gardens, and public spaces, including Hudson Yards and Bryant Park in New York, the Getty Center in Los Angeles, and the outdoor campus here at the Barnes.

A brief lecture and conversation with Angelone will follow the film.

Sitting Still brings into focus the critical issues that have defined landscape architect Laurie Olin’s life and work, including urbanization and our lost connection to nature, economic marginalization, and the grave importance of humanity in design.

Gina Angelone

Angelone is a director, producer, and writer whose work has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, the William Penn Foundation, New York Women in Film & Television, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among others. She produced Bravo’s Inside the Actors Studio and directed the Disney series Defining Beauty and the documentaries Itʼs Better to Jump (2013), René & I (2005), and Connections: Preserving America’s Landscape Legacy (1997).
