About the Event

It’s the first Sunday of the month, which means free admission at the Barnes. Enjoy fun art activities, performances, and free access to the collection galleries.

This month, we’re pleased to welcome traditional Mexican dance group Ñuuxakun for a special performance of “Art and Freedom / Arte y Libertad.” Learn about the rich tradition of Mexican folk dance and music from regions such as Sinaloa, Aguascalientes, and Veracruz. This vibrant and colorful experience highlights the importance of folk dance in Mexican culture.

Registration opens Thursday, September 3, at 10am.

Performances by Ñuuxakun

Ñuuxakun is a community dance group dedicated to preserving, sharing, and celebrating Mexico’s cultural traditions through folkloric dance. Each week, participants receive technical training in footwork and body technique, explore the history and culture of different regions, and learn to create and care for traditional costumes. Led by Andrea García Espinal, the group performs regularly at events across Philadelphia.
