About the Event
Join us for an evening of art, live music, cocktails, and light fare at our monthly First Friday mixer.
Our August program is presented in partnership with BlackStar Film Festival, an annual celebration of the visual storytelling traditions of the African diaspora that showcases films by Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists from around the world.
Tonight’s performance features artist, composer, and vocalist Justin Hicks. Based in the Bronx, Hicks uses music and sound to investigate identity and value. His work has been presented at Lincoln Center, Performance Space New York, the Public Theater, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Kennedy Center. Hicks has collaborated with artists and musicians including Abigail DeVille, Kaneza Schaal, Meshell Ndegeocello, and Cauleen Smith. Guests can also enjoy music by DJ lil’dave on the West Terrace throughout the evening.
First Friday at the Barnes includes access to the collection and Just Us. Freedom Dreams will be on view in the Roberts Gallery before and after performances.
Seating is limited. Cocktails and light fare are available for purchase.
In the mood for something heartier? The Garden Restaurant is open for dinner during First Friday. Make a reservation between 6 and 8pm.
