About the Class

Gardeners spend more time managing weeds than any other garden pest. In this class, we’ll dive into the subject of weed biology and how some basic facts can help you appreciate why weeds are such formidable adversaries. We will look at some of the region’s worst weeds—such as Japanese stiltgrass, poison ivy, Canada thistle, giant knotweed, and lesser celandine. You’ll also learn effective use of mulches, see a full array of weed control tools, and even investigate chemical solutions that can be used on the toughest weeds.

This program takes place at the Arboretum of the Barnes Foundation at Saint Joseph’s University, 300 North Latch’s Lane, Merion, PA 19066.
