About the Class
“Long live painting,” Henri Matisse wrote on a 1925 postcard to his friend Pierre Bonnard. The dialogue between these two artists is long and fascinating, carried out not only in letters but also on canvas, through their oft-similar treatment of interiors, still lifes, and the female nude. Join us as we detail their creative exchange, which lasted 40 years.
Each week, the main lecture is followed by a 30-minute discussion session that allows students the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with the instructor and classmates.
Bowen previously taught at Lebanon Valley College, where she received the Nevelyn J. Knisley Award for Inspirational Teaching. A painter, she exhibits extensively and has participated in programs at the Paris American Academy, the Salzburg International Summer Academy, and Southampton College in New York.
