About the Class

Go behind the scenes with archivist and historian Barbara Anne Beaucar, who will share the history of the Barnes Foundation through authentic archival records. Be among the first to examine recently uncovered letters documenting William Glackens’s famous art-buying trip to Paris in 1912. Learn about Alfred Maurer, who worked as an art buyer for Dr. Barnes and as his European sales representative for Argyrol. See the photographs that Henri Matisse sent from his studio in Nice, France, documenting the evolution of the Dance mural. Discover the story of paintings purchased from Georgia O’Keeffe and what transpired when Dr. Barnes returned them.

Barbara Anne Beaucar

Beaucar, an archivist and historian, has worked for the Barnes for 15 years. She processed the correspondence of Dr. Barnes and created and digitized the Foundation’s photograph collection, comprising over 8,000 objects. She earned a BFA in visual art from Concordia University in Montreal and holds an MA in history from West Chester University. Currently, Beaucar is working on archival exhibitions, lectures, and essays promoting the history of the Barnes.
