About the Class

The life of Albert Barnes is a remarkable success story—a young man’s rise from humble beginnings to the top of the art world. This class will explore Dr. Barnes’s journey from research chemist to art collector and educator. Philadelphia was central to shaping the man Dr. Barnes became, and the city’s neighborhoods and history will be a touchstone for this class.
