About the Class
The life of Albert Barnes is a remarkable success story—a young man’s rise from humble beginnings to the top of the art world. This class will explore Dr. Barnes’s journey from research chemist to art collector and educator. Philadelphia was central to shaping the man Dr. Barnes became, and the city’s neighborhoods and history will be a touchstone for this class.
Seymour holds a PhD in art history from Tyler School of Art at Temple University. His research focuses on the collecting practices of Philadelphians John G. Johnson and Albert C. Barnes. He is an associate professor at the Community College of Philadelphia and a recipient of the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.
