About the Class

Now celebrated as one of art history’s geniuses, Pablo Picasso still had to start somewhere. Looking closely at early works by Picasso—from his Blue Period to the cubist compositions—we will explore and contextualize this iconic artist’s beginnings and consider the role his canvases play in the Barnes collection.

Miriam Stanton

A PhD candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, Stanton served as a Barnes “In Focus” lecturer for the 2017–18 season. She received her MA in art history from Williams College and has held curatorial positions at the Williams College Museum of Art and the Nevada Museum of Art.
